Well, its been very long since I posted an entry here and I hadnt really planned to cos of long hours doing all sorts of stuff... but emotional events warrant at least some words... this is not about SA, or about ccas, or classes, or ogs, or SJI for that matter, it is just for a friend.

When I stepped home less than 2 hrs earlier after yet another long day in school, this one ok but not exactly great, winded after walking home from bkmrt, a message brought to mind my kopped new year resolution, to live each day without regrets (which i've already broken countless times), and its origins, the fraility and temporality of life. ok, i'll cut the crap..

I dunno what ur thinking or doing now, or what u wd be thinking or doing in the next 24 hrs, the next few days.. though i can infer, it probably wont be right. death brings with it a strange fear and fascination and when it touches someone, the emotional consequences ripple through social networks like ripples in a still pond when a bird swoops down to it to pick up a pondskater in its beaks from somewhere up in the sky. the ripples are felt by other insects in the pond, and all react in their own ways, be it to approach the source, or to flee from it, to look for shore, or to dive deeper into the pond. but the hunted pondskater is gone and only its memory remains, and those who knew its worth grieve and continue living for its memory. jacksnr in meetthefockers called this memory a legacy. (was it?) ok seriously, i'll cut the bull now...

Your situation now is one that only you would understand fully, i dont and nobody would claim that he does. I kno u dont need sympathy and condelences and sweet words, but it is known that even tho u dont ask for it, some things u do need, friends, listening ears and quiet time (perhaps some1 to cry to too?). You provided those for me before, and taught me something back then.

I wont preach about moving on in life and accepting and the grief cycle and all that crap, cos u already know abt them. just know that all the people u knew and know are standing beside and behind you...

this somehow reminds me of a turtle, at a certain place... (ok, that wassnt exactly appropriate)

u failed the test. sadly. several reasons why i didnt go earlier, i told u 1 of them. u said ok but went on sowing shit about me. where's all ur stuff about 'if u cant go nvm, i wont force u'? (and by the way, that doesnt sound that great too, as if ur forcing me to go by saying that). where's mr nice-guy now? where's all the 'thx for the troub' and 'i know u dont owe me anything'? when push comes to shove and for once i couldn't spare the trouble, you go n harp about me betraying u. u say u've always trusted me the most. where's the trust now? where's the understanding that you preached? yes, i've passed half-truths to u before, but seems like my incomplete trust in you was a good judgement call, for obviously you do not trust me and respect my decisions (even though u insist that u do). i think k's comment on your 'true nature' last time was not far from the truth. by the way as a footnote, the $-deal, i guess its clear that it was me who lost $ by not going?(quite alot for tt matter) most certainly not u.

its 4 days to christmas and santa sent to me the above nonsense.

PAE, got into SA science, which is no better and no worse than I expected with my prelim l1r5. ah well, guess it'll do.

Went down to SA to acompany a fren who wanted to appeal from sa arts to sa science but found out that internal transfer is only done when term starts. Then it was macritchie with nelson for a run/walk for 3 hours. toked alot of crap which may not be crap. too bad ban didnt come.. ahh.

Wahaha! another day at the 'kiddy place'! wahaha started off slow with the usual drawing, colouring, cutting and plasticising (ok, laminating). the lunch that the teacher-cum-cook (isit?) cooked today was way better den yesterday's too, beehoon today. returned to more drawing, colouring, cutting and plasticising... n guess what? for the 'jack and the beanstalk' figures that me nel n ban were drawing, we got the jack about 2x bigger than the giant... and jack's mum about 0.5x bigger than jack... ahah.. nvm, can be a test for the kid's perceptive skills when they get told the story with the figures...

After tt got to play with the kids when some of the 11 of us there had left. Ahah! I got to carry kids! 1st time in my life!! woohoo!! all the while my relatives dun let me carry my nephews n nieces (no lil bros/sises) cos scared i would drop them... zzz... ah! proved them wrong.. i didnt drop any of them today... right at the end, when leaving.. some of them (i rmb the little girl) trying to pull me back from the exit.... wahhh... in the end we gave her a low-five n she said 'bai bai' n waved her little hands while we walked off.... wahhhhhh.....

zzz, just as we're starting to enjoy it n they say its last day on thursday... hai..

Alright, my original post kanna lost in lalaland after my com hung whilst burning something. Shall retype a shortened version.

Read Our Town earlier, which I think aims to expound on the age old philosophical queries concerning life and its reasons and what is it about. Some parts were a little draggy, but nevermind, might be cos the thing was written in a different generation. The issues explored are the truths of human life, quite similar to the 1st book in the previous post. I think the book does not really introduce new ideas, but serves to bring to our notice things that I believe we all intrinsically and naturally know but which have been burried deep in the backs (medula oblongatas?) of our minds cos of socitey and its everyday demands. Perhaps that's what makes writings like OurTown and TheLittlePrince so well received; they tell us things that we know but have forgotten. hmm... sth liddat...

Anyway yeah went to kiddy place again n had a few transactions... ahah... anw, today was much better than the other day, not so much drawing and art n craft, we got to actually interact with the kiddies. kanna some kiddy drool again just like nelson lol. anw, the kids seem much more violent than we were 12 years ago... highlights: a boy hugged my leg... ahhhh.... and a group of them started singing 'shebangs' all of a sudden. ahhh again.

Just finished <> by c.c.s. after spending a whole day standing n selling stuff... nvm that, abt the book, i got it with <<4>> by s.k. and <<5>> by m.a., which i nv found out what it was about despite it being on life bestsellers list for duno how many months already. will read it ltr. anw, the ccs book i wont say its truely outstanding but it had quite a few parts which were quite touching and intrieguing, and humbling too. Its a collection of bitesized short stories.

My dl is complete! wahahaha... i'll be counting the hours left before i can try it out! (with the help of the counter at cheryl's blog)

I shall herein summarise the 301-page brown book (just the stuff needed for later) which has served so faithfully for the past 2 years through being thrown around in class, soaked in rain in my bag and of course being the target of experiments by my pilot gtec-c4. (but the book is still in ahh.. almost-perfect condition, that is.. no loose pages and with both covers intact) after tomorrow, my copy of 'the 20th century: as it was lived' shall go to my cousin in malaysia who has reserved it since a few months back. And so, here goes (chaps 2,4,5,9 small as nobody will read this anyway):

Chap 2 china 1911-37:

Reasons for 1911 revolution:
1) foreign intervention - defeats and unequal treaties led to humialiation, which caused manchu govt to become unpopular & ppl lost faith in it. ppl gave support to revolutionaries who planned to topple the govt and numerors uprisings like wuchang 10/10/1911 were staged.
2) hard life of peasants and town workers/failure reforms - starvation/unemployment/low wages/faced exploitation. govt did little to improve lives. reforms not introduced by the consevative cixi. reformers arrested n imprisoned eg 100 day reforms. tf ppl blamed inapt manchu govt for their troubles and when opportunity rose to overthrow manchus, ppl gave support to the western educated elite like sunyetsen.
3) rise of western educated elite - went to west to study, imbued with ideas of democracy, familiar with workings of constitutional mornachies, returned to china and found absolute power of manchus outdated. eg sunys hawaii->tungmenghui aiming for revolution. had support of ppl who could not get jobs and were dissapointed with manchus. led to numbers of revolutionaries rising -> wuchang uprising -> manchus toppled.

'err.. ok la..' he said. den we just continued studying our own stuff. anw after an hour they left, with the non-working 1 saying none too discreetly 'wl liddat oso called work ah? anyone can do oso...' *shrugs* all he did was clean n re-clean the already-clean tables anyway. i think i can do a better job lol. might try in december...

anw, after this sec-4 'im lovin it' guy left, another more well-endowed (is tt the right choice of words?) Alright, I just finished the e-book and am still quite... hmm how u say.... affected... by the book's content. I shall not spoil the experience or those of u who will actually go ahead n read it by commenting too much, but the issues explored are quite interesting. Ruling, getting admiration, owning, knowing, appearences. Do all these really matter? Maybe they do in our lives, but could there be something else? More than just on the personal level, some worldwide issues are touched upon by this st exupery guy.

The power of taming, the power of conceit, the power of not knowing... hmm, what am i saying... lol, for u who are lost, go read the book! Its free even.. Its much shorter than normal books and is simple to read too.

Maybe the whole idea can be summed up in:
"it is the time you have wasted on your rose that makes your rose so important"
maybe?

GWB just won the US elections after vietnam-guy Kerry conceaded. So ends the saga where billions of $ was sunk into publicity and printing and dunno wad.. At least k-guy didnt force even more $ to be wasted by dragging on the story.

Back to O's, English paper i wrote on 'Flight', which very few ppl seem to have picked. I wrote on the legends, origins, history and finally future of flight and also what it represents for mankind; quite similar to the prelims 'journeys' which i did quite well in. However, I just have the feeling that this latest essay wassn't as good as it shouldve been and I'll probably get lower than what I had for 'journeys'. Sit was worse than prelims one too. Paper 2 ok except that i misread the summary qn and wrote 150 words instead of 160 in total.

anyway, for those knowing nuts about prawns.. hmm, just bear with it.

my aunt from KL went back to M'sia while i was in the dumb quarantine. haiz, could'nt see her off at the train station. she came yesterday and left today, to aid my family and household and to lend a shoulder to her sister, my mother who is... ahem ahem.. due to my... ahem ahem.. father. i'm to take a greater role as a peacekeeper between them. I also heard for the first time the story of how my maternal-side relatives struggled due to an... ahem ahem.. grandfather from ah yi. came to respect my uncles more from the story. anyway, as the only son here, i'm not supposed to subconsciously emulate the negative actions of my father and maternal grandfather. don't worry, i will not. that behavarioul allele shall be rendered recessive from my generation onwards.

just last week i shouted at my parents cos of a stupid egg incident when my mother broke an egg by dropping it into a pot of hot water in a bid to make hard-boiled egg or something. my father saw and started blabberng and argueing about how ' u make egg oso can break', 'where got ppl cook egg liddat 1', 'u so stupid, salary so low still can break eggs... blar blar blar.. embarassing. the floor above and below could hear i bet (and mine is not HDB). i had just stepped home i think from chem pract and was pissed that i got so many dunno what solutions wrong, so, still in school uni, i just lost my cool and shouted at them louder than i ever shouted in npcc about blah blah quarelling over a stupid egg blahblahblah... dont need to go into more detail. anyway, why rmb this incident now when its so far off? cos ah yi spoke to me about 30 hours ago about being less apathetic about matters of the home instead of just living my own life while watching the 2 old ppl fight and fight over $ and random stuff and the.. ahem...

ah yi came for just a day, yet today my mother seems to be in a much better mood than the last few months (or years). maybe she just needs someone to whom she can pour out stuff to.

Just woke from a long long sleep with long and weird dreams. Seems like the longer one sleeps, the more 'deep' his dreams get (I never get such varied dreams in the school-term). Anyway, one of the many dreams was the classic dream-about-dreaming, where I woke up from a dream only to find out I was still dreaming and had to wake up again. Another part of the dream was about tomorrow's emath1 paper's question which I think was on number patterns. I think there was some sort of tiered triangle in the dream. Could the question be on triangular numbers tomorrow? Another dream was some weird combination of computer games. :p

Its 2 in the morning of the 3rd anniversery of the WTC attacks. Yet another terrorism event. Haiz. A minute of silence. The forum letter in friday's straits times by that Muslim guy struck me. Alright, this post is inspired by Mr Lee and to a certain extent the 'O' lvls and of course the video they showed us in PSE, "Pay It Forward". Prelims english 1 essay question was on terrorism, but I did not do it. Anyway, your points are all valid, and to a certain extent, 'SS textbook-style', IMHO. So let's have my comments, as promised. Its based on causes and effects, which I think is a topic quite throughly debated through for generations, but I'll try anyway.

There has been much writing all over the world on the issue of terrorism on both sides. About how terrorism is wrong and only causes suffering and regression and about how both terrorists and those they oppose are stubborn in their demands and refuse to see the picture from the other party. True.

There has also been stuff about how those the terrorists claim to back have been opressed and stuff about how the terrored suffer and die. There has also been material about how governments are training their anti-terror teams and how terrorists getting better equipment and training and becoming more cunning and lethal. BULLSHIT I say for all these and I can only pity the short-sighted pragmatism that these actions are inspired by. There will be only regression back to the Dark Ages if the fight against terrorism is one of attacks and counter-attacks, of skirmishes and retaliations. But, as I posted earlier in Mr L's tagboard, 'Hate hurts the hater more than the hated,' a quote from a fiction book I read long ago in primary school. So, there shall be no hatred in this post......

Newton's Third Law states that 'Every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. Cause and effect. A Buddhist saying states 'For every cause there is at least one effect; for every effect there is at least one cause.' Cause and effect. You burn a piece of paper with a lighter. You striking the lighter and holding the flame is the cause, while the combustion of the paper is the effect. Cause and effect. Ah, but in the last example, if there is no paper, or no oxygen in the air, even with you lighting the lighter, will there still be a combustion of paper? Without paper, there is nothing to combust; without oxygen, the lighter is useless. So there is something missing from the Buddhist saying and Newton's law?

There has to be a set of conditions present in the first place in order to connect causes and effects.

Take a look at terrorism. At one glance, one can see many different interlinked causes and effects. Discontent with a society or government effects splinter groups (sorry Mr L) to form (if from within that society itself) or it could effect anti-whatevergovernment organisations to form (from without that society). The demands of the government for these groups to stand down being ignored and the demands of these groups for their wants to be met being rejected or stalled will commonly effect these groups to commit acts of confrontation, of aggression... of terror. Hijacking a plane and crashing it into a building and blowing it up, blasting subway trains with bombs, taking a school of children and parents hostage at gunpoint. All these effect death and suffering.

In all these causes and effects, do you see a common condition? I do, and that condition, is mindsets.

The Pseuso X-Singapore Trail

Just back from the aforementioned run. Actually, it was more of a walk-a-jog as I developed a stitch. Anyway, we went from mcritchie to peirce to seletar to mandai zoo where we had kfc for lunch before coming home. All this with the next prelim paper in 6 days time. Crazy?

Alright, some stuff about the scenery. At the lower pierce trail (casuarina trail I think), it was really misty and the sun was rising up into the sky. You could see the *gossamer* rays of the sun streaming through the trees, just like the picture at the bottom. Walking through that trail with the sunbeams flanking you, you could almost say it was grander than walking down a red carpet. Anyway, upper seletar reservoir is a lake both huge and deserted. Never really expected to see such an expanse of greenery (and bluery) in Singapore. We tried to cut from the reservoir park to the zoo through an old army path in the forest, but after going in about a kilometer, decided it was too risky and turned back.

Quite fun actually, its not often that I sleep in a bus, but after that 5+ hours of leg movement, I slept in bus 130 all the way from AMK to my house.

Back to more down-to-earth reality. A quandrary. Should I become a CI? I'll leave that for some other time.

Alright, this is my new blog just newly shifted from blogdrive which I culd never post in for the past few months. Over the next few weeks, I'll be refining the template and design, hopefully this'll be a better blog than before.

Anyway, about today, I'll be going jogging with Ian in about an hour or 2. Glenn, perhaps we'll drop by your house. Yeah, that'll be the first post here. Ciao.
